PORTFOLIO
Hi, I'm Gabriela Ford. A creative
Instructional Designer for Online Learning (IDOL)
A little about me!
I started creating learning materials as a teenager. I took my passion to the next level and pursued a graduate degree in Adult Education focused on Instructional Design for Online Learning IDOL. After graduating, I continued my education to obtain a post master's degree in Human Performance Improvement and Leadership.
I am passionate about my profession !!!
For most of my scholar years, I obtained an IDOL internship while working as an independent IDOL. Designing meaningful content with media tools and applying needs assessment for the right model of evaluation became my strength.
I have been recognized as an influential leader, a strong self-driven team player, and an analytical thinker.
I serve bilingual English-Spanish stakeholders by developing end-to-end professional learning, needs assessment, and models of evaluation.
I received the 2011 SHARKIE award
For the design and implementation of the course Think Spanish Speak Spanish on the foreign language category. The course was free and available for users on The Brainshark platform for over 3 years.
My Portfolio in Images
Designing learning materials using interactivity not only promotes cognitive learning, it creates a memorable experience for the subject matter expert, the presenter, and most of all for the learner.
My work is 100% learners centered.
Below is an interactive and fun activity, designed for promotional purposes where users need to solve the puzzle. Designed with Captivate Software.
Examples of mindmaps
I have designed to convey specific objectives.
Images convey the message faster and captures readers attention.
Images in the form of mindmaps allow the presenter to not only having a well organized presentation, but to follow a sequence, and with the right tools, you can hide or bring concepts and even connect thoughts from other maps at will.
As it shows in the previous image, all instructional design for online learning should display on mobile devices.
Although it is recommended to use a desktop or tablet for a better experience.
All The Tools You Need To Build Successful Learning Materials or a Complete Online Course, require professional input.
Elements like audio and video editing. Interactive intervention, animation, 3D when needed, meaningful evaluations, transcript, close captions, and much more.
Voice selection. Fluent and proactive communication with stakeholders. Project management in place to keep goals on time.
And designer's effective understanding of cognitive and design theories to capture learners' attention so they can close skills and/or learnings gaps.
I especially like to create learning using animation.
Here a few examples...
The first video is in the Spanish language. Voice over and edition over animation created for promotional purposes.
Second video is a prototype to demonstrate to stakeholders how to navigate the course.
The tools used were, PowerPoint to design the presentation, Adobe Presenter to develop the project, Techsmith Camtasia to edit the video and BlackBoard LMS to publish the presentation. Finally YouTube for private distribution.
In both cases Voice narration from the Instructional Designer, Gabriela Ford EdD.
Storyboards are an important part of a project design.
Below is an image to show you an example of a Storyboard I designed for the course Think Spanish Learn Spanish.
Project Management and Time Management are important interventions during the project design.
Below is an example to show the work break structure of the project design.
Course objectives should be tied to the assessments and course evaluations can also be interactive and fun to provide learners with a better experience.
Below is an instructional designer's approach.
